Angela watched her best friend Louisa get married to her boyfriend since she was fourteen. On the day of the wedding, Louisa asked Angela if she is indeed going to marry Mark, her boyfriend of ten years. Angela and her boyfriend was already engaged but never really set a date.

That night, Angela went to the car to pick up her comfy flats only to find Mark having sex with a girl at the back of the car. Angela confronted her best friend and her husband at the party why they knew about the affair and never said anything. Angela made the bride cry, injured her husband Tim and saw Mark by the door with just his boxers on. The entire guests saw what happened.

Angela feeling heart broken, cheated on, lied to and embarrassed, flew to New York on a whim. As soon as she arrives at her hotel, she immediately made a couple of friends, is dating two men on her second night and was offered a freelance job at The Look magazine a few days after. And it gets interesting from there on.

I Heart New York
Lindsey Kelk
Harper Paperbacks
336 Pages
ISBN-13: 9780007288380
Personal Rating: ♣♣♣

I have always wanted to read the “I Heart..” series by Lindsey K. Kelk. I had access to the e-books but never really had the chance to start reading them.

I Heart New York is reminiscent of Sex and the City. In fact, it has been mentioned two or three times in the book.

Angela, the protagonist, like Carrie Bradshaw, is a writer, but a children’s book writer in the UK. She was soon offered a freelance writing job for The Look magazine as a blogger, blogging about her heart aches and dating experience in New York. Angela has started to love the finer things that shopping experience in New York can only give living with just her post-wedding shoes, a Louboutins no less, and bought her very first expensive handbag, a Marc Jacobs. Like Carrie, she made a friend in Jenny Lopez (aka Samantha, SATC) as soon as she arrived in New York, friends who are older than her, teaching her The Rules in dating, friends with connections and friends with equally sadder love stories. Like the SATC TV series, you’ll read snippets of Angela’s thoughts on love, dating and being pensive about things.

People go to LA to “find themselves”, they come to New York to become someone new.

We all dreamed about New York. What’s not to like about it? The diversity, the energy of the city, the shopping, the Sex and the City experience, the men in Wall Street or the troubled artist in Brooklyn.

Finishing the book made me want to live in New York only with a realist view of New York. The cost of living in New York is darn expensive, you’ll only live in debt if you succumb to the wants of big fashion houses around the city and living a certain lifestyle. So, when it’s not happening anytime soon or ever, Lindsey Kelk book, I Heart New York is a great escape to New York dream land.

Let’s talk characters. Angela is British, smart and thin so the looks department and charm of the British accent worked for her. Dating two men at the same time and offering it as bait to your future employer can only end badly. Jenny Lopez (not the artist girl from the Bronx, in fact, the character insist not to reference her to the same person) works in the hotel where Angela ended up staying. At thirty, she hasn’t figured out how to become Oprah, her lifelong dream. We all know we can’t be Oprah. But she forged a strong bond with Angela having been through the same situation as her like many New Yorkers. She has that cynical look to relationship, men and dating. She insists that Angela should just be dating as many men as possible. Alex and Tyler are the two gentlemen Angela is dating. Alex is the front man of a band and Tyler is Mr. Wall Street. I’ll leave the description at that so no spoilers.

Who would you go for? The artist or the rich guy? Who is playing and who is being real? I was confused myself truth be told until it was revealed at the end of the book. And, can you play the field with two different men and not end up feeling invested in one them?

Have you read this book or the entire series? Would love to read your comments so leave them in the section below. Thank you for reading!

School is cool and can indeed be stressful. Here's some tips to get you through the rest of the second semester and school year.

Never put off for tomorrow, what you can do today.

Don't wait for tomorrow to do things that matter especially when it comes to school. This way you avoid cramming and rushing to finish a project or school paper. Do that advance reading too even if it's just 2-3 pages in advance reading.

Plan, plan, plan.

Don't just plan for homework, major exams or school activities. Schedule down time or chill time, too. All work no play, makes one a dull girl.

Make sure tools are readily available.

Books, cute school supplies, watch to keep the time, versatile school bag, etc. Knowing you have everything you need makes it easier to succeed in school. Because college life can be hectic, having a trusted phone like the new OPPO F3 does not hurt, too.

Be always healthy.

Get your boost of happiness by exercising, get at least 8 hours of sleep, drink at least 8 glasses of water, eat healthy and don't forget to take your vitamins. The "Work hard, play hard" should not be in your vocabulary while you are still studying and living from your parents hard earned money.

Be a stand out personality in school.

You don't have to be the girl with all the latest fashion, or the one with the most expensive outfit and gadgets. You can dress comfortably, classic and chic but have a smile ready at all times. Say "Hi!" to random kids in school because they might be going through rough times. Involve yourself in school activities, too. It's all about the balance.

For school, I prefer to dress comfortably, classy and chic.

OOTD Colors: Black and Blue

Esprit blue jeans, blue Le Pliage Long Handle Longchamp Tote, black Charles & Keith flats, black geometric IORA top and silver men's Fossil watch.

I was first drawn to Sophie Kinsella book because of the colors. It was at a time when Sophie Kinsella wasn't as well known in the country. After reading a few of her books, I can share with you my favorite Kinsella books of all time.

Confessions of a Shopaholic

There's nothing like the first book. It was a great first read and introduction to the writer Sophie Kinsella. I was reading this at a time that I was already enjoying my first high-paying job and dreaming of living the life like Carrie Bradshaw (the fashion, quaint brunch, coffee and lunch restaurants only, please). And yes, credit cards. Tsk tsk..

Can You Keep A Secret

That was probably the most funny, laugh out loud book I've read of hers. Emma was one hot mess. I don't think I could live that down if I was her, embarrassing yourself like that to someone who turns out to be your boss. There goes my professional image. Tons of laugh out loud moments.

I've Got Your Number

This book reminded me of Bridget Jones. It was interesting to use the handheld device at a time when everyone could not live without it. It is indeed scary to have your phone falling in the hands of a wrong person. But, Poppy was adorable about it. I can't help saying to myself that Poppy should really leave this Magnus guy, her fiance. I don't want to be in that kind of situation. Glad she had it figured out at the end of the book.

What's your number one favorite Sophie Kinsella book?

Robinsons Galleria Summit Hotel Cebu is the flagship hotel of Summit Hotels and Resorts.

I didn't know to expect when recommending that we stay here for the night. All I knew is that I want to stay within the new Robinsons Galleria Mall in Cebu and not have to worry about the traffic. I wished we stayed longer.

The indoor pool is something to experience. I was told that we have to get a different pass in order to use the hotel's pool. But, we went there, it was clean, stylish and it wasn't crowded at all.

I had an early flight so I wasn't lucky to experience the free breakfast that was part of our accommodation. So, I can't say anything about it now share food photos in this post.

I really enjoyed my stay. The room was clean, comfortable and had every thing we needed. The staff was courteous, friendly and kind.

Knowing what I know now, I highly recommend this place. Mama and I definitely want come back and stay again in this hotel.

I don’t know much about this book and I don’t have any expectation. I didn’t read any review or summary but I like the idea of reading this in a graphic novel format.

A Wrinkle In Time
Copyright 2007
ISBN-13: 9780312367558
Book Design by Jennifer Brown
Mass Market Edition
Personal Rating: ♣♣♣♣♣

The graphic novel for kids is a John Newbery Medal awardee and is a 5-part book series. The theme of the book is not just for kids. It revolves around Science, time travel, the universe, literature, languages, family, angels, religion and love.

The story is about the adventures of the Murry kids and Calvin O’Keefe. The elder Murry’s are both scientist and they have 4 odd or special children. The story revolves around the adventure of looking for Mr. Murry, who has been away on a Government mission for too long. The entire town thinks he left his family for good.

His two children, Meg and Charles Wallace, befriended three thieves/witches who know where their Father is. Charles Wallace, who has advance intelligence and is able to see through people, believed them. He persuaded his sister and their friend, Calvin O’Keefe, to go on this mission to find their Father.

On their journey, they met various characters that reminds me so much of Mother Earth, Angels, Evil/Satan. All throughout the story you will read about references of various literary works, the galaxy and the universe explained, the good and evil doings of Human beings on Earth and it’s effects, Religion as the characters talk about Jesus and mentioning Bible verses. The children were sent into a world to which they themselves can only travel and where they can find their Father.

It’s definitely a must read! The kind of books that reminded me of the lessons taught to me as a kid. As we get older, it is so easy to forget the basic lessons of right and wrong.

There’s a movie adaptation of this book coming soon. It’s a movie to be directed by Frozen director.

If you happen to be in Cebu, even for an overnight stay like myself, I recommend staying in Hamersons Hotel Cebu.

All rooms are equipped with LCD TVs, air conditioning, WiFi and a hot and cold shower. Some selected rooms include a Mini Bar.

The standard room where I stayed was clean and comfortable. All room amenities that you expect in the room is all in there. For standard room, double occupancy, the rate is at Php1,650 net. (Prices are subject to change so please check with the Hotel).

The breakfast the next morning was delicious. I chose Filipino style breakfast with Bangus. Love!

Unfortunately, the Hotel's business center was not working properly. I had documents to print out and was told the printer was not working. Oh well! Going paperless is always a good thing.

Hamersons Hotel Cebu is in the center of the city where most public transportation is accessible. It is located in 0337 Don Mariano Cui Street (along Chong Hua Hospital going to NBI). Visit the website here.

Marina Barrage is Singapore’s water reservoir. It serves as reservoir, a flooding control, and then became a lifestyle attraction.

Address: Marina Barrage

8 Marina Gardens Drive Singapore 018951

How to get there

Take the Red (NS27) or Yellow (EW15) MRT line, wherever you are the nearest, and alight at the Marina Bay Station. Depending on the MRT line you chose, ask the SMRT Information Counter at the exit which way to the Marina Barrage bus stop. Take Bus 400 for a fee or the Marina Barrage Shuttle Service for free. If taking Bus 400, alight at the 4th bus stop.

At the look out, you can see most of Singapore's famous landmarks, the city skyline and the HDB. You will see the Marina Bay Sands, the Singapore Flyer, the Helix Bridge, Gardens by the Bay, Singapore Science Museum.

The weather was not cooperating so please bear with the dark photos. We were not allowed to play in the little park because of the weather. It's dangerous for when lightning and thunder strikes. We have to wait for the weather to improve. I was lucky to see this up close. Singapore's water supply, the technology, they are so advance and yet are not shy in turning it into a tourist attraction. The structure of the lookout, with additional amenities, is an art itself. I just did not get a nice photo of it.
