And Audrey Was Her Name

So I asked Chat GPT to recommend me a book with a 40-year-old something single female character in it. And, this is the book that was recommended to me.



The first time I requested a recommendation, it gave me a different book and was "Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine" which is a novel by Gail Honeyman. Then it recommended me other books every time with slight changes to the request phrase, "with" and then "about". I have to say, Chat GPT has excellent taste in books because of all the three that it recommended, I've heard excellent things about them. I won't be mad if I end up buying these books and reading them.

New year, new you but I still refuse to make a bucket list for 2023. Getting a new year means a new year to lead a better life than we did last year. COVID-19 restrictions may not be strict this year but inflation hits an all-time high. Prices for commodities have increased considerably and it's now painful to enjoy the simple enjoys. What's a girl to do? Find new avenues that will not cost a fortune.

READING

There are sites you can download free ebooks. My mother subscribes to these fictional and not so well written stories but still engaging like your regular telenovela on TV. There are second-hand bookstores to get really affordable books or make a book exchange with anyone who, like you, is also a bookworm.

BLOGGING

I've parked blogging for years and somehow deleted a few more on some other platforms. But, I have always started blogging as a way to create and just write away random thoughts to escape realities sometimes, and now I am back. I've rekindled the love to write on anything that catches my attention and just throw in my thoughts and ideas on the subject.

RECREATIONAL HOBBIES

I've collected a few items to start and enrich my hobbies. Unfortunately, they have been left unused and neglected. That time is no more. If you are reading this, look around your home and look for unfinished projects. Great way to spend time creatively and not have to spend any extras, or I hope.

Leading a mindful lifestyle is not a surefire way to have a happy life. There's no formula. I haven't really read the Happiness book at all. But, if there are little things that spark joy, yes, including getting rid of useless things at home, then do that.

It is basically back to normal for most businesses. Lucky for those who survived the pandemic. And after all of that, we find that the workforce finds the work-from-home setup convenient. 



This opens up a problem with being inactive and living a sedentary lifestyle. We lose that daily dose of exercise that we get from walking to and from work office. While this is true, it is also not impossible to find a solution.

When Youtube erupted and gave birth to famous Youtubers who became influencers, the most subscribed channel back then was the beauty guru channel. After years of watching them, and wasting money on makeup, I realized what the content does to my well-being. It is the video version of the magazine where you can say," Don't buy it as it will only make you feel ugly."? And yes, poor. Beauty gurus did that for me. So, I stopped watching them.

Do you think you still have the time? Trust me, you don't. Don't waste your youth on youthful things and experiences. Or at least, those that are sold by your generation, mine are the millennials.


I am now 40 and here is a list of what I wish I knew and done when I started working after graduation. I should've known back then to invest my salary as early as possible.

1. Memorial Plan and Memorial Lot
Cosmopolitan Funeral Package and Manila Memorial Garden
The monthly premium is not expensive and can be paid in full in 5 years. Get this out of the way as soon as possible.

2. Real Estate 
It doesn't matter whether you know or don't know where you will end up in the next 5 years, but one thing you must do is save up for that downpayment for a house. A house is considered THE BIG ONE purchase for all adults. It is not your wedding expense. So, as early as your 20s, save up for a home you can call your own.

3. Insurance 
Start investing in a life and health plan as early as you can. It doesn't have to be the most expensive plan because you can always upgrade in the future once your salary increases and your career progresses. 

4. Car
This is going to be controversial. It always depends on where you work and live. If the commute proves to be exhausting, some would say, buy a car. I would not call it an investment because cars devalue as they age but the energy you put yourself into on a daily basis to function at your best at work is the investment. If one day, you do end up buying a property located in a suburb because the housing costs less, at least by that time you have already fully paid your mortgage on the car. 

5. Stock and saving options
Now is such a great time to invest. When the economy is down, stocks cost less. There are so many investments and saving options offered these past few years compared to when I started out adulting. For example, the PAGIBIG Modified Savings and PAGIBIG Regular Savings programs. And this example is just the easiest and most basic for just about anyone who is a member of PAGIBIG can do.

This is not the most exhaustive list out here on the web. Just a short idea of what you could work on. Do your research. Plan it out and most importantly, focus on the goal.

 It's been years since I've been out of work. It is time to get back to the swing of things. The trend has caught up because of the pandemic and everyone is getting the hang of the work-from-home setup. 

Recently, I have been advised that one day someone will be better at the skills and industry I was in. I cannot deny that fact. After studying the freelancing industry, I conclude that the ones who have the IT skillset tend to do well. It means better pay and a longer work contract offer.


For years I have always wanted to study Google Analytics only to find out that it will be phased out and a new Google Analytics will take place. Things like this make IT a highly pressured work industry because it innovates so much faster than someone like me can keep up. But, it is not impossible. 

Upskilling is the only way to make oneself relevant in any industry. It is a way to broaden your career horizon and find opportunities to grow.

There are so many platforms that offer courses to help with self-study. I have courses parked on SkillShare and LinkedIn Learning. The motivation to get started is another story. There is no other way around it but to just get on with it. One step at a time. One video lesson at a time until you get it done. 

But my interest is varied. I have Adobe Creative Suite courses saved, Bookkeeping, Medical Transcription, and Data Analysis. What am I going to be good at?

There is no news yet when I can have my vaccines but a good friend, who owns businesses, who know my sister, is offering paid vaccines. 

With the strange lockdown ruling throughout the Philippines, again, I'm all but stuck in the house. So, what must one girl do? You make do of what you can and with what you have. Plus, some magic that is online shopping.


What I am enjoying so far:

Every morning, I get pandesal for breakfast. Since I am back home from my hometown with my Mother, pandesal is a must-have every day. It's not helping with the weight gain problems that I am having. I can always blame it with zero physical activities yet I can't help myself when having 4-5 pieces of pandesal in the morning.

Music has always been a great escape. I am loving Sarah Geronimo - TALA the Film-Concert Live Album. This is the only album of hers that I have on repeat for the longest on replay. I am enjoying few singles from Skusta Clee - Dance With You, Angela Ken - Ako Naman Muna, MANILA GREy feat. James Reid - Backhouse Ballin', and EDM music from The Midnight.

Like everyone else, movies and K-drama series take too much of our waiting time. I am running out of K-drama's worth watching on Netflix. I even subscribed to a month of HBO GO in order to watch the FRIENDS Reunion. Old movies are abundant on Netflix and there are so many crime movies that are still goodies.

BTS Run! is on hiatus because they are currently promoting. I don't consider myself part of ARMY and I am not really a fan of their music or of any K-pop idol. But, since the boy band is everywhere I did get to follow them on their own pseudo-variety show on VLIVE. I guess I'm on there just for the laughs.

Half of the year is over and I feel like, again this year, I have not accomplished anything. I'm still in limbo, living like a dead spirit day by day.

There's so much to say but so unsure where to start.

I took a long and unplanned break from blogging because the written word has become unimportant. Everybody is now telling it through pictures. 

There are hardly any bloggers out there that surprise me. There aren't that many personal bloggers anymore.  This blogger is guilty of rebranding so many times. Switching from a personal blog to a lifestyle and beauty blog and back again. 

2012.

It was and is a difficult time, picking up the pieces and at a much slower pace. The last 7 years went by like a blur. I've wasted so much time with no clear direction of what I want or where to go.

2019.

I'm slowly starting to put back the pieces by finally going to cooking school. I also did one thing that scares me. I've finally sent in my application as a public school teacher. The results were great but I still have to wait for the final meeting.

2020, quarantine.

It's been almost 4 weeks since we started quarantine and 2 weeks on lockdown. While I am the type of person who enjoys staying at home, but not being able to go out to buy necessities myself is a whole different matter. Sometimes I just want a break from staying home and just go to the mall or just get stuck in the traffic. I could no longer do that.

The simple things we used to enjoy and take for granted is taken away. I've realized that there are so many people who are not ready for something like this to happen including myself. This is what the biggest takeaway from all this. What if it is an actual war that happened?

It's such a strange, scary and sad time for everyone. I worry about family and for others who are going through worse.

There are so many things to do right now. But as usual, I can't seem to get myself to start working on these tasks.

Sigh.

Quarantine got me hooked to K-pop all over again. Yes, I thought I was over it. Quarantine did that. I've been watching BTS videos on Youtube. When will this lockdown be over?

And, oh yes, I learned how to make Dalgona Coffee. It's the rage during these quarantine days.

As I’m getting older, I’m getting sensitive to the aches and pains of the body.

I have always suffered from tonsillitis since I was a child and I have learn not to overeat sweets, flavored food and drinks. I had a kidney scare two years ago that stopped me from drinking coffee and I had to track my water intake. Now, I get 4 cups of coffee a month in average and I have yet to learn to regularly drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.

My father was maintaining medicines for high blood pressure and died in 2007 because of heart attack. My mother has gotten a few more food allergies now that she getting older.

So, of course, I have to be worried about my health. My metabolism is not the same as it was 10 years ago. It doesn’t help that I don’t live an active lifestyle but I’m trying to change that. When I saw an ad on my email, asking me “How healthy are you?”, I have to know.


Two major factors contribute to the probability of developing a critical illness: 

HEREDITY AND LIFESTYLE.

While genetic makeup is not something we can control, for now, some lifestyle changes can be made in order to lower our chances of contracting a critical illness.

This can be done by making a personal commitment to engage in a regular physical activity, abide by proper nutrition, quit smoking, and control alcohol consumption.

That's a very alarming percentage. If my family history includes cardio disease, I could go anytime. I am tracking my activity with a pedometer and I've signed up for a gym membership. I have to learn to watch my carbohydrates intake and add more fruits and vegetables to my diet. I don't have anything figured out in the fitness area. I know I should be doing more and really take good care of the body. How healthy are you?

I've never been trapped or stuck in a room just because I forgot about the time or failed to hear the last call. Not even detention! What would I do?


1. Read that book I’ve wanted to buy recently but just don't have the money for it yet. 

2. Write a live blogcast of my experience by the minute/hour and keep my location secret while I’m still inside. LOL! 

3. Surf the web? I say surf the bookshelves with no loading/foot traffic and interruptions. 

4. Have a cafe section? Play barista for a night and make myself a cuppa. Dream come true! Do they keep cupcakes overnight? I’d take one, too.

5. Tumblr-fy, rainbow bookshelf! Rearrange a bookshelf at the back of the store by book spine colors.

6. Those Sharpie pens? Oh those Sharpie pens, I’d test them all out. 

7. Bookstore turned library for the night. Research, research, research on new topics for a future blog post. 


8. Play music, wear headphones (don’t want to be caught by the night guard) and dance around the bookstore.

9. Try to reach those books at the top of shelves (I’m only 5’1”. This should be fun.) and see what the fuss is all about up there.

10. Find the cheapest book or notebook ready to check out the morning after. Don’t want to be tinkering with the cash register else it might blow my cover.

Sending out applications is quite interesting and yes, frustrating too when you don’t get callbacks. But, let’s stick to the interesting part.

I have been dropping my resumes everywhere seeking traditional office roles to work from home contracts. I came across a staffing agency and they seem to be meticulous when it comes to their applicants, as any company should be. What sets this one apart is the application process where I came across taking series of test. One of the tests is the personality test.  I have taken this test in the past and I do see some truths behind the result.

When taking personality tests, you have to be truthful in answering it. The way I did it is to answer the very first thought that comes to mind, an instinctual answer, and not the thought of answer. I wouldn’t like to be categorized in the wrong group. Besides, tests like this have no right or wrong answers. The tricky part would be, if the type of personality you are fits in the role that you are applying for or the business environment.

The result: The Advocate (INFJ-T)

Mind you, I have taken the test before and it gave me the same INFJ results, but I don’t remember getting the “T” of “Turbulent” part. I also remember getting the “The Mediator”, still in “The Diplomat” personality group and not “The Advocate”.

Question: Does your present mood, life situation, maturity maybe affect the way you answer the test and the results? Why is there a difference to the personality type and part of the result?


Advocates are the most likely personality type to choose a minimalist lifestyle.

How do I feel about it?

As I do believe I’m the introverted type, I do also believe that I can be an advocate. There are many instances where people describe me as such, and it’s different from what I thought I am. Advocates are easily misunderstood as extroverted individuals and I have heard people describe me as someone who could be an extrovert.

There was a part in my life where I question the purpose behind things I was doing, be it personal or career. I remember working at a high rise building and then just staring out the window and saying, “What am I doing? What makes this work important? It’s not changing the world.” Yes, it was tad dramatic but I remember that feeling just what “The Advocate” personality is being described.

I was reading the personality strengths and weaknesses. I am familiar with creativity and having insight. I am also familiar sensitivity, being extremely private and feeling burn out easily. When it comes to romantic relationships, I always seek out real connections. I fell in love once and the true connection I felt is something that I want to have in future relationships. I don’t seek casual relationships and it has be genuine making the personality test result accurate in that sense.

Career wise, I don’t how I feel about “The Advocates” personality would not thrive in a corporation set up. Since I was younger, I have always felt that I’m not the salesman type. The test results recommends becoming one’s own boss.
