And Audrey Was Her Name

The last few weeks I knew my Singapore work visa will not be renewed was spent going to tourist places that I haven't visited. One of my last pit stop among the handful that there is around Singapore is the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

Chopin Monument at the Symphony Lake

Before leaving the house or your hotel, put on SPF, bring a bottle of water and an umbrella. Going to the park, I took the North-South Line MRT and stopped at the Orchard Station. From there, take the 5 minutes bus ride to Tanglin Gate. Here's a more accurate description on how to get there.

Symphony Lake

I was there on a week day so it felt like walking into a secret garden. Well, until I reached certain areas like the restaurant and entrances to attractions like the National Orchid Garden. There you'll see tourists milling around or waiting in line. If you are into flower or landscape photography, you'll love this place.

One of the attractions of the park, National Orchid Gardens.

There's also a tourist shop inside. I got a Chinese calligraphy version of my name and what it means. It's cute!

“His voice, even now, follows me everywhere on this longest of rides, this thing called life.” ― Nicholas Sparks, The Longest Ride

It has been 4 years since the release of the book. It's been sitting on the Kindle reader for a long time. It took one power outage for me to start reading the book. Once I started, I could not put it down.

In all honesty, I'm not into sappy romance novels. Believe it or not, this is the first book I've read of Nicholas Sparks. I know, shame. I only watched the film "A Walk to Remember" and I knew its from a book of his.

The Longest Ride

I have not seen the movie version although it stars the very good-looking Scott Eastwood. As a Nicholas Sparks novel virgin, it did not fail expectations. The story telling has that slow pace feel to it as if you are also living in the country side like the characters.

The telling of the depth of love between Ira and Ruth's story is well done. I felt the longing, the loneliness of the one left behind. Although the story of Ira and Ruth was told in parallel to Sophia and Luke's love story in present time, it did not give away how each of them would end up. It tells us that love knows no time, that humans go through the same things and they too have to deal with relationships. How one reacts affects their future.

Sophia has a lot going for her, being so young, still a College student, a future ahead of her. But, would you choose love over your dreams? Would you give up the only thing you know in order to be with the one you love?

Read the synopsis here. I rated it 4 stars in Goodreads.

Sample Room PH works similar to subscription boxes. The differences are you get to choose the products they send you and you can check out the items based on redeemable points available on your account. You can get more points by posting product reviews on the website. The only amount you pay is the shipping fee which is less than Php200. It also works like an e-commerce website. You can shop for new products in sample or full size.

Here are the products that I want to try.

In this first part series, I will be showing you where and how to buy your own blog name. This is only setting up the blog name and not yet the website.

FIRST, WHAT TO NAME THE BLOG

Figure out what to name your own website or blog. The name is what we will refer to as domain name. Try a couple of names before buying what feels right to you.

SECOND, IS SOMEONE USING IT?

You need to check if it is available for you to use. To do that, I recommend using Namecheap to search for the name's availability. And, this is the website where we will be buying the name.

Namecheap.com

THIRD, ADD TO CART

An available domain name for use will cost you $10.69 a year only. Be sure to check spelling. Click the Shopping Cart button to buy. Once it's added, click the red View Cart button.

FOURTH, WHAT ARE THESE OTHER FEES?

In your cart, you'll also find an ICANN Fee for $0.18 per year and the WhoisGuard is FREE for one year. This two fees are necessary by law and recommended that you buy for privacy. You will only need to pay a total of $10.87 unless you want to buy extras. You don't really have to.

LASTLY, PAYMENT IS FAST & EASY

Confirm your order and go through the payment process using your card or Paypal.

IMPORTANT NOTES

You will be required to renew your domain name every year if you want to keep it. You only need to login to your Namecheap account to renew. After one year, WhoisGuard will cost you $2.88 a year.

Domain Name: $10.69
ICANN Fee: $0.18
WhoisGuard: $2.88
TOTAL = $13.75

Now that you have your own website name, what next? The next part of this series will show how to set up your own .Com with no extra cost.

View the PDF file here for the step by step guide and with images to help you out.

If there's a mall nearby, my first thought would be if there is a National Bookstore inside. I can spend hours in this store. I don't just go to NBS for books but also for school supplies like pens, notebooks, notepads, highlighters and office supplies. I have claimed multiple e-purse points since owning a Laking National card. If you love books and is a reader, I recommend getting the Laking National loyalty card from National Bookstore.

  1. Pay the One Hundred Pesos (P100.00) membership fee at any counter. Students may join for a discounted fee of Sixty Pesos (P60.00) with valid school ID. Membership fee will be waived upon presentation of single or accumulated receipts worth P5,000 from National Book Store within the past 12-months (not applicable for renewal).
  2. Fill out the Membership Application Form and submit to the Customer Service Counter.
  3. Once the card is received, kindly affix your signature at the back of the card. You can start collecting points and receive special offers immediately.

If you happen to be in Cebu, even for an overnight stay like myself, I recommend staying in Hamersons Hotel Cebu.

All rooms are equipped with LCD TVs, air conditioning, WiFi and a hot and cold shower. Some selected rooms include a Mini Bar.

The standard room where I stayed was clean and comfortable. All room amenities that you expect in the room is all in there. For standard room, double occupancy, the rate is at Php1,650 net. (Prices are subject to change so please check with the Hotel).

The breakfast the next morning was delicious. I chose Filipino style breakfast with Bangus. Love!

Unfortunately, the Hotel's business center was not working properly. I had documents to print out and was told the printer was not working. Oh well! Going paperless is always a good thing.

Hamersons Hotel Cebu is in the center of the city where most public transportation is accessible. It is located in 0337 Don Mariano Cui Street (along Chong Hua Hospital going to NBI). Visit the website here.

School is cool and can indeed be stressful. Here's some tips to get you through the school year.

Never put off for tomorrow, what you can do today.

Don't wait for tomorrow to do things that matter especially when it comes to school. This way you avoid cramming and rushing to finish a project or school paper. Do that advance reading too even if it's just 2-3 pages in advance reading.

Plan, plan, plan.

Don't just plan for homework, major exams or school activities. Schedule down time or chill time, too. All work no play, makes one a dull girl.

Make sure tools are readily available.

Books, cute school supplies, watch to keep the time, versatile school bag, etc. Knowing you have everything you need makes it easier to succeed in school. Because college life can be hectic, having a trusted phone like the new OPPO F3 does not hurt, too.

Be healthy always.

Get your boost of happiness by exercising, get at least 8 hours of sleep, drink at least 8 glasses of water, eat healthy and don't forget to take your vitamins. The "Work hard, play hard" should not be in your vocabulary while you are still studying and living from your parents hard earned money.

Be a stand out personality in school.

You don't have to be the girl with all the latest fashion, or the one with the most expensive outfit and gadgets. You can dress comfortably, classic and chic but have a smile ready at all times. Say "Hi!" to random kids in school because they might be going through rough times. Involve yourself in school activities, too. It's all about the balance.

For school, I prefer to dress comfortably, classy and chic.

OOTD Colors: Black and Blue

Esprit blue jeans, blue Le Pliage Long Handle Longchamp Tote, black Charles & Keith flats, black geometric IORA top and silver men's Fossil watch.
